Board Year '22-'23: FAQs

Board Year '22-'23: FAQs

The applications for the candidate board of '22-'23 are open! We are again looking for enthusiastic Krotonners with a red-green heart who want to do something for the association and get more out of their student days. Still in doubt? Read the frequently asked questions (and answers) below to find out more about what a board year at Kroton entails.

How do I apply for the board?

You can apply for the candidate board ‘22-’23 by sending a motivation letter to voorzitter@kroton.nl before May 1st, including why you want to be in the board, what function(s) you are most interested in and why, and what you expect from a board year.

What functions can I apply for?

The board consists of six different functions:

  • Chair(wo)man: representing the board and association as a whole, being first point of contact as board, taking care of external relations with sponsors

  • Secretary: taking minutes of all meetings & GMMs, handling the member administration & most general administrative matters

  • Treasurer: taking care of all financial aspects of the association

  • Head of the Technical Committee: filling and maintaining the teams, taking care of the technical committee and their work

  • Internal Coordinator: taking care of all committees and their work, representing the board to the committees

  • Match Secretary: scheduling matches, creating referee and hall duty schedules, handling most Nevobo-related matters

Can I also apply to become the External Coordinator?

Last year, a new function was introduced: External Coordinator. However, this function did not end up being used in this year’s board and the Board ‘21-’22 has decided to also not include it in the applications of the upcoming board.

Why should I do a board year?

Not only does a board year look good on your CV, it is also a very valuable experience! Through being responsible for an entire association and working together with your fellow board members, you learn important skills that you can apply in your future career. Furthermore, a board year is also a great addition to your social life, as you will work closely with five other Krotonners, get to know all members better, and be present at all socials and activities!

When will my board year start and end?

Officially, the new board will be installed in October 2022. You will then stay in the board until the next board is installed in October 2023. However, once the candidate board has been announced in the summer, you will already start joining meetings of the current board, take over some tasks, and start the preparations for your own board year (e.g. thinking about board goals, ordering board clothes, etc.).

How much time does doing a board year take?

The Kroton board is a part-time board, which means that you are still able to study, work, or do other things besides being part of the board. Depending on the function you have, your schedule and planning will be more or less dependent on other people. For example, if you are a treasurer, match secretary, or secretary, your tasks can be planned out in advance more easily, but for the other functions, unexpected situations might occur that are difficult to plan around. However, the more organized and experienced you are, the easier it gets to manage and resolve these situations!

I am not sure yet if I want to apply. How do I get a better view of what doing a board year is like?

If you are unsure about whether a board year is the right choice for you, you can always contact one of the board members. They are happy to answer your questions and explain a bit better what their functions entails and what their board life looks like. You can also join one of the board meetings to see what a meeting looks like and what kind of topics the board is usually busy with.
