Get to know Kroton: Socials!

Get to know Kroton: Socials!

Each month, we ask a Krotonner to write a blog about their life within Kroton. This month, Marcel (H1) will take the stage and tell you all about his love for socials over the years!

Dear krotonners,

I have been a member of this amazing volleyball association a long time, since September 2014 to be precise. And in that time somethings never change like, we play volleyball, we’re students, our beautiful colors and of course that we’re more fun than Donitas and Veracles. But other things do change: the people, the teams and also the socials. Over the last years it’s fun to see how we as an association evolve and change with each passing year and each group of new students that will play at this amazing club. I would like to talk about the socials what they mean and how it has changed over the years.

When I just started at Kroton, I was pretty much new to Groningen. New place, new sport and new people to get to know. I just loved how, at the socials, I could get to know everyone from the club. It was the most casual moment to talk with people from other teams or committees I didn’t know yet and make connections.

One thing that was different when I started at Kroton was that two teams had to organize the socials together. They thought of a theme and did the advertising together. It was a fun way to connect with other teams. We had some great themed socials like traffic light, gala, ugly Christmas sweater, black and white and of course movie themed parties.

In the latter years the themes disappeared, but the people kept coming. So still every month it was a moment to talk to the other members and get to know the club and bond with it. And man, did I have some great nights.

And now, there are already two years of corona and there less socials and more online events. And I see that socials are losing their charm. It’s not the casual place where you can chill, drink, and get to know more people in the club. And I’m starting to miss those moments. Starting to miss you.

So, I would like to say to everyone, come and join the socials! Get to know the people of the club, make friends, get drunk, hear stories, have fun and make memories. Hope to see you there.
