November Blog: The life of a Chairwoman

Dear Krotonners,

One of our goals this year is to use the website more actively and to post more news on there for you to read. We think that the best way to do this is by starting a blog where you can read all about life within Kroton and what everyone is up to. As the chairwoman I have the honour of writing the first one. Who knows, maybe it will already inspire some of you to become the new chairwoman or -man next year after reading about all my board adventures the past month :)

I started November off with one of my favourite days: a Home Game Day! My own match got cancelled sadly, but that did mean I could be fully present at the board table, help out where necessary and watch all the games! I ended the night with one of my favourite things, which is partying at De Doos. It was a fun night with a lot of Krotonners, so it was definitely a success! For me personally, it was also a great success, because I actually managed to have a backbone and not go to an afterparty for once, even after many times of spinning the wheel at De Doos. But the next day was a very important day, so a good night's sleep was necessary, as we would be voting on the name change during the GMM that Sunday! We successfully changed our name to G.S.V.V. Kroton and thereby achieved a big part of one of our board goals!

The next week was filled with board meetings, work meetings, finishing up assignments for university and a very exciting weekend! That weekend, my team, Ladies 2, had their team weekend! I played laser tag for the very first time and felt like a true James Bond. That game of laser tag revealed some next level competitiveness in my team that I had never seen before, but it was definitely lots of fun. But the day didn’t end there. We went straight to De Doos for a shot before it closed at 20:00 (you may wonder, did we have dinner yet by this time as we had just played laser tag? The answer is no.). Well, the plan was to go for one shot… Let’s say it didn’t go according to plan. After picking up a silent disco kit, we cycled to my place where we ordered food and danced the night away. With a final activity on Sunday, a hangover brunch, the team weekend came to an end.

In the third week of November, I went back to all the serious board stuff. Together with my fellow boardies, I joined the ACLO Kaderdag, which consisted of an evening of fun workshops with tips and tricks for our board year! I also met with part of the DKV board and board members from the other student volleyball associations to discuss the DKV tournament, and met with the sportscenter to discuss closing the doors in the HG hall during Home Game Days (to be continued…). At the end of the week, I took a little break from the busy board life and went home to celebrate my mum’s birthday.

The last week of November was once again filled with board meetings, work and university. I also had another meeting with the sportscenter about closing the doors in the HG hall and found a temporary solution (yay!). We also had a fun board night and took our board pictures this week. I can’t wait for everyone to see them! We ended November with another Home Game Day and, although we couldn’t go to De Doos anymore, I heard a lot of teams still had fun team evenings!

And that’s it! Of course I did a lot more the past month, but I won’t bore you with that. I hope you enjoyed the little sneak peek into my life and stay tuned for another blog from someone else next month!

Love,

Sanne Potze
