Matches Week 45
The first games of the season have now all finished, and since not everyone is able to be at every match, especially with the extra restrictions, we have decided to pick up where we left off from last year with match summaries! As such, every team has been asked to write a fun summary of their game so you all can have a feeling that you were actually at the matches!
Ladies 3
Last Saturday we played against ON Ladies 6 in ‘de Brug’, next to our own Ladies 5 and Ladies 1! We did not start great, ON’s outside attackers were playing smart balls and kept attacking straight. We were not able to respond to their powerful attacks and lost the first two sets with 25-23 and 25-13. In the third and fourth set we put more pressure on the opponent with our serve and attacks, and blocked and defended their attacks. We fought for every point and because it was very warm in the hall, we had to clean up the slippery floor between points. At one point there was even a spider in the field that tried to help us (Aina got the scare of her life), but luckily we were able to put it safely to the side. We won the third and fourth set with 23-25 and 22-25. Next came the fifth set, as many of our away games. Maybe it is because we are not focused enough or need to get used to the hall, but let’s say it is because we love to play now we still can! Anyways, as our last five setters, we were not able to pull the victory to our side, we had to leave the fifth set to ON with 15-10. But nobody can say we didn’t fight for it!
Men's 2
We'd like to tell you about a little something called Murphy's law. Most of you already know it, but it goes as follows: "Everything that can go wrong, will go wrong".
It was a beautiful saturday morning, like many Dutch autumn mornings. The men of H2 were ready and hyped to play a game against Oranje Nassau H4 in sportshall De Brug. Sadly Juan couldn't make it and he washed the shirts, so he had given them a day earlier to his teammates.
The men of H2 were supposed to arrive at 14:30 but most of them were a few minutes late, no biggie. The first to arrive scanned their QR code and went to the changing rooms, to find out that Juan had put the shirts in the bag while they were still wet... We were disappointed, but not surprised.
It was getting a bit late so our captain Bálint decided to call the setters, which had not yet arrived at the hall. Herbert was on his way and Noam was already there, nice! Bálint told Noam they were in changing room 2 but when Noam arrived in chaning room 2, it turned out he was at the ACLO in stead of De Burg. Again, disappointed but not surprised.
With Noam sprinting to de Brug, luckily, we still had our other setter Herbert. However, Herbert was vaccinated in Hong Kong and apparently his QR-code didn't work in the Netherlands. Great no setters for the first set.
The choice was either Libero Bálint or Janis as setter. Bálint used to be setter so that would be the obvious choice, however, if he would set he couldn't play libero afterwards, so the choice fell on Janis.
Next problem: Bálint had forgotten to get a coach for the game. Again... Disappointed, but not surprised. Luckily Max from H1 had decided to show up and he was willing to coach us, what a legend.
The first set was a bit of a struggle, with Janis getting used to the setting, but with our amazing outsides we managed to pull through the first set with a win! Noam was about to show up right? Wrong. His QR code also didn't work... You know the drill by now: Disappointed, but not surprised.
After hearing the news that we didn't have a setter our spirits fell a bit and we lost the second set...
After an amazing speech by Max we lifted our spirits and the third set was fairly equal with the teams. That was the case untill Domantas started to serve. His serves were so strong and precise that the opponents had no chance of passing the ball. The next part is all a bit of a blur so the details are a bit foggy, but in no time we were about seven points ahead and won the set.
The forth set all the men of h2 were hyped as hell and we crushed ON in the last set. While the middle sets on Moritz were a bit sloppy due to Janis not being a setter, Moritz turned every failed set into a perfect tip. Janis' sets on outside however, were often perfect. We think he might be a bit biased towards outside... After a good tip from Bálint on where the holes in the opponents defence were, Fabio managed to spike every ball straight through their defence and so the forth set also went to Kroton.
Even though everything went wrong, Kroton H2 still managed to win 1-3 against ON. What a game it was!
